Is feminism pointless?

Feminism, a word that now, due to the internet's "wonderful communication skills and open mindedness" has become a taboo. Feminism, a movement, that started, promoting and celebrating the equality of sexes has now turned into a giant internet joke, a mere meme. Instead of spreading positive energy and love, feminism, has now turned into an insult, and to most people, a medium to mock strong women and discourage feminist men.

Well, I don't know about you, but I, personally, am immensely bothered by ignorant comments I hear and read about feminism all over the internet, and in my local community itself. I truly believe that even if I conduct a 2844920 hour lesson explaining and demonstrating true feminism, I'll still have people coming up to me with things like, "But what about men? Don't men have rights too?" or even "What do you mean? Men and women are already equal. This is pointless."

People who know and understand the concept of feminism and still don't support the cause are not the topic of discussion here, in fact, they don't even deserve to be mentioned here. This post deals with the ignorance and blindness of the others, the ones who just do not listen or even try to understand feminism. I simply cannot comprehend why the concept of equality is so hard to understand for some people. Just going by the term feminism which references to females, and assuming the entire movement is about somehow proving women are superior and deserve more is totally absurd.

Another fabulous contribution from the internet is the word "feminazi". Now this word, to put it simply, is very complex. I really wish I could say that all feminists are amazing and do everything right, but that just simply isn't true. Like most things, there are two sides to feminism and although one is supportive, positive and truly celebrates equality, the other end of the spectrum can get ugly.

Straight up rude, insensitive and once again, ignorant “strong feminists” can be found all over the inter-webs and, while I undoubtedly am a feminist, I do understand why people can be repulsed by the idea of feminism because of them. Attempts to shove feminism down people's throats and taking offence and getting hostile over the slightest or not even sexist joke is undeniably, and quite simply, pointless. If you are one of these people, understand that you are the one tarnishing feminism, one of the reasons feminism is now a taboo and the way to promote your belief is not aggression and forcefulness.

Now that I have rambled about feminism and things that annoy me about it, I'd like to end by saying, if you're a feminist, be proud of it, support it and promote your beliefs. The internet's negative connotation on feminism shouldn't and will not stop us. We have to work together to once again portray feminism as a good choice, a positive choice and the only right choice. Ignorance should be wiped away.

I aspire to see such a vastly feminist world that feminism is pointless.
